I didn't find this book to be as advertised. While it purports to provide stories of older folks' sexual activity, it really is little more than a series of erotic sketches. All the characters are "special" in some way and sure don't represent the aged population. I really expected something a little more authentic, not the products of the author's imagination. Wow! What an eye-opener and page-turner. I didn't even know books like this existed for people over 50. Now I've seen several more from this genre, but Seasoned Romance 1 and 2 are absolutely the best! I can't even begin to describe how liberating and wonderful it is to read about people my age and older who are excited about live and love!
For years I've enjoyed reading the Seasoned Romance column by Jeoffrey and Renee Powell, so I was excited to get their book. I definitely wasn’t disappointed. Each of the 10 interviews is packed with the wisdom, insight, and warmth that only “seasoned romance” can bring. I was surprised most that the people being interviewed, being from a generation that didn’t always talk about such intimate things, actually revealed so much on topics like love and lovemaking. I’m glad they did. I’ve been waiting to read something like this for years. These are the issues that affect everyone, and what I’ve learned in Seasoned Romance have been life-changing.
I gave the book four stars, but was leaning toward five.
My only complaint, at least when I started reading it, was how revealing and even risqué it was. The editors and people being interviewed didn't mince words, that's for sure.
By the time I got to the end of the book, I had changed my perspective a lot. Even though it tends to be a bit erotic at times, I realize that it is coming from actual interviews.
Regardless, if you want real-life stories from older people who share from their hearts about lasting relationships, heartwarming romance, and what it takes to keep the home fires burning, then this is a really good book to read.
Okay, I'll admit, I probably should've given it five stars.
By the way, my wife of 39 years loved every page of it, even the parts that I felt a little uncomfortable with. She would probably give it 10 stars if the ranking went that high!
A fun read. Good modern approach to intimacy. Worth the read
This is the best book I've read on what it means to be a "seasoned, sensual senior."
It's obvious from these 10 candid, revealing interviews that love and lovemaking can be exciting, fulfilling and even erotic, regardless of age. That's reassuring!
I was pleasantly surprised to read that things can actually get better with age for men and women who choose to become healthier, more passionate and more skilled.
It's revealing and intimate, very tastefully presented, and definitely not for men or women who are satsfied with accepting the myths we all hear about aging and sex.
If you're a senior who wants more fulfilling romance, this book is a treasure!
The stories were erotic, but basically the interviewees are very well off economically and I was hoping for some good interviews with the "regular folks".
For too many generations, our society has worshipped youth while ignoring older people who have so much seasoning and wisdom to offer (and obviously some damn good sexual experiences that we can learn from!).
Now, with this book, we actually get to read what it means to be over 60, yet having the times of their lives in so many areas, including love and making love. It’s definitely time!
The book's title is Seasoned Romance, Book One, but it's mainly about heroic, sensual (and sensuous) seniors who offer refreshing honesty about their experiences of intimacy and relationships.
